Retired Ice Cream Man Died
STIRLING, ALBERTA, CANADA -- While many Latter-day Saints remember Dennis Fletcher
as an avid dancer, artist, gardener, organ player and temple worker,
many others remember him as the owner of the family-run Dennie's Own
Ice Cream Parlor in Magrath, Alberta. Brother Fletcher passed away
this past Thursday after a battle with Parkinson's Disease.
Fletcher was born in 1911 in Magrath, and married Grace Brandley in
1935 in what was then the Alberta Temple. Twenty-three years later,
the high council representative moved his family to Sacramento,
California, to manage ice cream stores for the Carnation Company.
Before returning to Stirling in 1973 for retirement, he had also
served on the high council of the Sacramento American River Stake and
with his wife as a tmeple worker in the Oakland Temple. The also
served as temple workers in the Cardston Alberta Temple upon their
return.
Fletcher leaves behind his wife, two daughters, seven grandchildren,
nine great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. His
brothers Elmo and Nyal Fletcher, patriarchs in the Lethbridge West
and Magrath Stakes respectively, will also miss their dear brother.
